 A PLACE TO STAY

After a long drive, there's nothing nicer than to sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and a warm, refreshing muffin.
Recognising this, Warren and Leonie Bull, who own and run Misty Valley Country Cottages in Denmark, present weary travellers with a complimentary basket of delicious homemade muffins on arrival.
It is one of the homely, friendly touches that makes Misty Valley a delightful place to stay.
When we arrived, late on a wintry afternoon, the cottage lights were on, the fire was lit and there was a small basket of farm eggs on the table.
If the muffins disappear all too quickly, you can buy more, as well as various types of home-baked bread.

The three self-contained cottages are set on a small farm about 13km from Denmark off picturesque Scotsdale Road.
The original one-bedroom cottage is adjacent to the Bulls' residence, while the new two and three-bedroom cottages are further along the farm track, well spaced for privacy.
The three bedroom cottage we stayed in was well appointed. Two rooms contained queen size beds and the third had two sets of bunks. The shower was over a hip bath, ideal for bathing young children, and the spacious bathroom also contained a washing machine and wash trough.
On the balcony, overlooking rolling hills, misty valleys and the farm's lake, was an outdoor setting and barbecue.
It soon becomes apparent why Warren walks everywhere with one or more of the golden

retievers in tow. He is blind, a factor that seems to elicit an extra degree of co-operation - not to mention unspoken awe - from visitors.
Our four-year old milked the cow and helped to bottle-feed the black and white calf, Collingwood. She fed apples to the very friendly goats, hay to the donkeys, scraps to the chooks and carrots to the cuddly rabbits.
One morning, she was given a guided ride on the docile "hinny" (donkey/horse) and another morning she went around the tracks in the tractor cab with Leonie and Mum.
Misty Valley gives you the feeling of being away from it all but is well-placed for tourist attractions such as the Treetop Walk, Green's Pool, wineries and the Alpaca Farm.
