Have you ever had one of those Sundays when all you want to do is go for a drive and find somewhere nice for lunch? Well this happened to my wife Leonie and myself a couple of weeks ago so we decided to take a short drive of approximately thirty minutes from Misty Valley Country Cottages to the small hamlet of Nornalup, approximately 10km from Walpole on the south coast of Western Australia.
There we found the Nornabar Cafe, and what a find it was! On arrival we were warmly welcomed by our hosts David and Victoria Higgins, who you will soon realise are extremely passionate about their food. After choosing our wine a lovely bottle of Mount Bera, a 2008 Cabernet Merlotfrom the Adelaide hills, an extremely nice choice, we focused our concentration on the menu.
Leonie decided on the very popular steak sandwich, comprising of 120g of prime scotch fillet, caramelised onions, home made tomato preserve, aioli, leaves, toasted house bread served with twice cooked hand cut chips. What an absolutely delicious choice, and extremely yum!!!! My choice was the vegetarian pasta with seasonal roasted vegetables, Kalamata Olives, baby spinach, feta, Napolitano sauce, linguine along with sliced chorizo, which is optional if you are strictly no meat. Again, this dish was really exceptional and just the perfect choice for a drizzly cold afternoon. I finished up my meal with a very nice, just right temperature coffee.
Victoria was only too happy to help us with directions to a local winery and olive farm about ten minutes drive away.
After chatting with David and Victoria for a short time we both left Nornabar cafe feeling warm, comfortably full and relaxed. Leonie and I will definitely be visiting the Nornabar cafe once again very soon and can absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the beautiful and spectacular scenery and attractions of the south coast of Western Australia.
